Embark on an RV rental in Denmark journey with Indie Campers and explore a land of coastal charm, colorful towns, and peaceful countryside. From the vibrant streets of Copenhagen to the white cliffs of Møns Klint and the windswept shores of Jutland, every region offers a new scenic experience. Choose the campervan that fits your travel style from Indie Campers' dependable fleet, all with unlimited kilometers, flexible one way travel, 24/7 online assistance, and useful extras like bedding kits, kitchen gear, or heating equipment. Backed by thousands of five star reviews and a 4.7 star rated fleet across Europe, Indie Campers helps you experience Denmark with comfort, freedom, and Scandinavian simplicity.

Denmark's road network is compact and genuinely well maintained, but the country's real shape, a scattering of islands stitched together by bridges and ferries, means a campervan removes the single biggest friction point in Danish travel: coordinating hotel stays around ferry schedules. A self-contained vehicle lets you catch an early ferry to Bornholm or a Jutland coast crossing without racing to check out of a hotel first.
Denmark also runs one of the highest costs of living in Europe for restaurants and hotels, while its campsite network, regulated under a national classification system, delivers consistent quality at a fraction of hotel prices. A serviced pitch with full hookup on the North Sea coast or on Funen typically runs far below a comparable hotel night in Copenhagen or Aarhus, and self-catering meaningfully offsets Denmark's above-average grocery and dining costs.
The country also rewards slow, coastal driving in a way a fly-in city break can't. Skagen's shifting sand dunes at the northern tip of Jutland, the chalk cliffs of Møns Klint, and Bornholm's Baltic light are all built around parking up, walking the coast path, and staying two or three nights, not commuting in from a distant base.
Spring (April-May): 6-14°C, campsites reopening after winter, Zealand's beech forests leaf out in a bright green (skovmærke season) in early-mid May. Best for castle-hopping and quieter roads; skip if you need reliably warm swimming weather.
Summer (June-August): 15-21°C, peak season nationwide. Coastal Jutland, Bornholm ferries, and Copenhagen campsites all run near capacity in July. Best for beach days, Skagen, and Bornholm; book campsites and any Bornholm ferry crossing 4-6 weeks ahead for July-August.
Autumn (September-October): 9-15°C easing to 6-11°C, rain increases through October. Møns Klint and the Jutland coast get dramatic autumn light with far fewer visitors. Best for hiking and photography; several smaller seasonal campsites start closing by mid-October.
Winter (November-March): -1-5°C, short daylight hours (as little as 7 hours in December), Copenhagen's Tivoli Christmas market runs late November through December. Most rural and coastal campsites close for the season. Best for a short Copenhagen city stop; skip if extensive camping outside the capital is the plan.
Most popular months: June through August, with May and September offering the better-value, lower-crowd alternative for travelers with flexible dates.
7 to 10 days: Day 1: pick up in Copenhagen, Nyhavn and Tivoli, overnight near the city. Day 2: Helsingør and Kronborg Castle (45 km, 45 min). Day 3: Roskilde's Viking Ship Museum (35 km, 35 min). Day 4: cross the Great Belt Bridge to Odense (165 km, 1h45), Hans Christian Andersen sites. Day 5: Egeskov Castle (30 km south of Odense). Day 6: Møns Klint (roughly 190 km from Odense back toward Zealand). Day 7: return to Copenhagen. Days 8-10 (extending): add Aarhus and the Djursland coast if pushing further into Jutland.
14 to 16 days: Add the full run north to Skagen and Råbjerg Mile, then loop back down the Jutland west coast (Ringkøbing Fjord, Blåvand's dune coast) before recrossing the Great Belt Bridge toward Copenhagen.
21+ days: Denmark becomes a full Scandinavian hub. Week one: Zealand, the Great Belt crossing, and Funen. Week two: the full Jutland coast to Skagen and back. Week three: a Bornholm ferry add-on, or a one-way cross-border leg into Sweden instead of looping back to Copenhagen.
License and age: a full license held at least a year is standard; drivers under 23-25 may face a young-driver surcharge. Non-EU holders should carry an International Driving Permit.
Speed limits: motorways 130 km/h (some stretches signed 110 km/h), rural roads 80 km/h, town centers 50 km/h down to 30 km/h in designated zones. Enforcement is strict, with both fixed and mobile radar in regular use.
Toll roads: Denmark's road network is free to drive almost everywhere, with two notable paid exceptions: the Great Belt Bridge (Storebæltsbroen) linking Zealand and Funen, where a standard motorhome (6-10 meters) runs roughly DKK 370-540 (approximately €50-72) one-way depending on length and season, and the Øresund Bridge to Sweden, priced similarly by vehicle class. Both accept card payment and BroBizz electronic tags at the barrier.
Denmark-specific rules: cyclists have extensive priority in towns and cities, with dedicated cycle lanes on most urban roads; always check your mirror and blind spot before turning right. Headlights must be on at all times, day and night, year-round.
RV-specific rules: a warning triangle is mandatory equipment in the vehicle. Ferry crossings to Bornholm and other islands require advance vehicle booking in peak summer; confirm your motorhome's length and height against the ferry operator's limits before booking.
BAC limit: 0.5 g/L (0.05%) for standard license holders, dropping to 0.0 g/L for drivers who've held a license less than 3 years, enforced through routine checkpoints, with fines scaled to blood alcohol level and income, and potential license suspension for higher readings.

Denmark sits at the higher end of the Western European campervan cost spectrum, driven mainly by above-average food and dining prices and the Great Belt Bridge toll, which has no equivalent cost in a toll-free country like Germany or Belgium. Campground prices are comparable to Germany's, and the supermarket network (Netto, Rema 1000, Føtex, Lidl) is dense along every route in this itinerary. The primary cost variables are fuel and bridge tolls; confirm current prices via Circle K or OK's fuel monitors and sundogsakkild.dk (Storebælt) before departure.
Denmark has exactly one Indie Campers depot, in Copenhagen, so there is no domestic one-way route: you can't pick up in Copenhagen and drop off in Aarhus or Odense, since neither has a depot. Any loop within Denmark returns to Copenhagen.
International one-way, from Copenhagen only:
