1. Choose your pick-up city. Any European location, from Lisbon to Helsinki.
2. Switch on "End in a different location." The booking system shows every drop-off point available for those dates and that vehicle. If a route isn't showing, no vehicle can make that move on those dates — shift your dates and it often opens up.
3. Review your one-way fee. It appears in your quote before you pay, alongside the daily rate and any extras. Nothing is added later.
4. Pick up, drive, drop off. Hand the keys back wherever you chose. No return leg.
One-way hires run on Indie Campers' own fleet, because we control where those vehicles need to be. Vehicles hired through our marketplace from independent hosts are usually round-trip only.
The one-way fee covers the cost of getting the vehicle back into circulation. It's calculated per route rather than charged as a flat surcharge — and in Europe it's the lowest we charge anywhere, because the distances between our locations are short.
What pushes it up: a drop-off far from where that vehicle is needed, travelling against the seasonal flow of the fleet, or a busy corridor in peak weeks.
What brings it down: a route we already needed covered — sometimes to nothing at all — or flexible dates. The same two cities can price very differently a fortnight apart, so if your plans can move, check a few options.
Always true: the fee is charged per booking, not per day. A two-week one-way trip pays the same fee as a five-day one, so the longer your trip, the less the fee matters. And you see it in your quote before you pay, not at the counter.
Every location below works as both a start and a finish. Combine any two and you have a one-way route.
314 km · 3–4 days · Best March to June Portugal's classic north–south run, and one of the shortest one-way trips we offer anywhere. Óbidos' walled old town, the surf at Nazaré, university-town Coimbra and the canals of Aveiro all sit within a few kilometres of the road.
282 km · 3–4 days · Best March to October Down through the Alentejo to the Algarve. Empty cork-oak country, the dune beaches at Comporta, then the sea caves and cliffs around Lagos and Sagres.
563 km · 4–5 days · Best May to September Over the Alps via the Brenner Pass and down through the Dolomites into northern Italy. Two countries, three landscapes, no border stops — one of the most dramatic short drives in Europe.
579 km · 4–5 days · Best April to June Straight down through Tuscany. Florence, Siena and the Val d'Orcia are all detours of an hour or less, and you finish in Rome instead of driving back north past everything you just saw.
644 km · 5 days · Best May to September The Costa Brava, the foothills of the Pyrenees, the salt flats and wild horses of the Camargue, then Provence and the Côte d'Azur.
Oslo → Bergen
459 km · 5–6 days · Best June to August Short on paper, slow in practice — and that's the point. Fjords, waterfalls and the Hardangervidda plateau. Plan more days than the distance suggests.
853 km · 6–7 days · Best May to September Through Saxony and Bavaria into the Black Forest, finishing in the Alps. The route to pick if you want cities and mountains rather than coastline.
1368 km · 9–12 days · Best May to September The long Adriatic run down the Dalmatian coast and on into Greece. Our most ambitious European one-way route.
Yes, and it's the easiest region in the world to do it. Indie Campers operates in 18 European countries and one-way trips, including across borders, are standard. Select your pick-up city, switch on "End in a different location," and the booking system shows every available drop-off point.
It's the European term for a discounted one-way hire on a route where we need a vehicle moved. Rates are heavily reduced and often include unlimited distance and a travel kit. The route and travel window are fixed, and availability is limited.
Per route, based on how far the vehicle ends up from where it's needed and whether we already wanted a vehicle moved in that direction. It's charged once per booking rather than per day, and it appears in your quote before payment. European fees are the lowest we charge, because the distances between our locations are short.
Yes. Within the Schengen Area there are no border checks at all. Routes involving the UK, Ireland or non-Schengen countries are confirmed at booking.
Locations across Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Germany, the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland,
Usually not. One-way hires run on Indie Campers' own fleet, because we control where those vehicles need to be. Independent hosts generally need their vehicle returned to the same place.
Standard routes can often be booked close to your dates. Longer cross-border routes and peak summer weeks are worth booking several weeks ahead, since one-way availability depends on a vehicle being able to make that specific move.
