Unlimited kilometres on all fleet vehicles. The Nature's Way loop covers 1,000-1,200 km. A Darwin to Alice Springs one-way runs 1,500 km. A Darwin to Broome crossing covers roughly 1,850 km. Per-kilometre caps turn these routes into maths problems.
One-way rentals connecting Darwin to the broader Indie Campers network. Start in Darwin and drop off in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Cairns, or Perth.
24/7 road assistance included on every booking.
Basic Protection Plan included as standard. Upgrade options are available at booking.
Flexible cancellation up to 31 days before pick-up without penalty, and book-now-pay-later for booking security without full upfront payment.
The Northern Territory operates on two seasons. The dry season and the wet season shape everything about how the Top End is experienced.
Temperatures: 25-35°C, low humidity, near-zero rainfall
This is when you go. All roads into Kakadu are open, waterfalls are still running in May and June from the wet season's residual water, and the contracting billabongs concentrate wildlife in smaller areas. Campgrounds fill quickly in June and July, particularly inside Kakadu. Book well ahead for peak dry-season months.
Booking note: Kakadu campgrounds, particularly Mardugal at Yellow Water and Muirella Park, book out weeks ahead for June-July. Reserve through NT Parks bookings immediately on confirming your rental.
Five days is the minimum to cover the Nature's Way loop properly: one night at or near Litchfield, two nights inside or near Kakadu, one night at Katherine, one night at Nitmiluk Gorge, and a return to Darwin. Seven days allows for a second day in Kakadu and a more relaxed pace.
Ten to fourteen days allows the Nature's Way loop to be completed thoroughly, with extra days in Kakadu, Mataranka thermal pools, and the longer gorge canoe routes at Katherine.
Darwin International Airport (DRW) — approximately 15 km from the city centre
Darwin Airport handles direct international services from Bali (Denpasar), Singapore, and Dili, plus domestic connections from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Perth. Most interstate visitors fly into Darwin via one of these hubs. The airport is within 20 minutes of the Darwin CBD and the Indie Campers depot.
The minimum age to rent from Indie Campers in Darwin is 21. A valid driver's licence from your home country is accepted for tourists. Licences not in English must be accompanied by an International Driving Permit (IDP) or a certified translation.
Traffic drives on the LEFT in Australia. All vehicles are right-hand drive. For drivers from the US or continental Europe, the first day requires deliberate attention to staying left, particularly on rural roads and roundabouts.
Unsealed roads inside Kakadu: The tracks to Jim Jim Falls and Twin Falls are 4WD-only and require a high-clearance vehicle. Confirm vehicle authorisation at the depot before any off-road driving. Insurance does not cover damage on unauthorised surfaces.
Road trains: Multi-trailer trucks up to 53.5 metres long operate on the Stuart Highway and major outback roads. Do not attempt to overtake a road train unless visibility ahead is clear for a very long distance.
Wildlife at night: Cattle, horses, kangaroos, and wallabies are active on NT roads at dusk, dawn, and throughout the night. Avoid driving after dark on outback roads wherever possible.
Fuel: Fill up at every opportunity on the Stuart Highway south of Katherine. Daly Waters is approximately 270 km south of Katherine; Tennant Creek is 670 km south. Remote stations charge significantly above Darwin prices.

Everything went perfect untill the dropoff were we waited 1,5 hours for someone to show up. Apparently there were some staff issues, and it took us 3 or 4 phone calls to get someone here to handle the dropoff.
