Campervan Rental Vienna

Vienna is charming, unique, and is well worth seeing. Not for nothing the city was repeatedly elected the most liveable city in the world. The mixture of uncountable green areas, splendid buildings, cozy spots, and the Danube as Vienna’s lifeline, makes the city special and perfect for RV rental Vienna.

From the empress Sissi to Mozart and Falco – this city always produces something fascinating. Vienna is attractive to students, artists, and business people in many of the same ways. Many of them stay forever because Vienna gives you the feeling of being a major city without the excessive hustle and bustle.

Vienna’s charm comes from the mixture of old-Viennese tradition and international influences. Beside the Hofburg and the palace Schönbrunn, you will also find the Persian carpet merchant and the Turkish kebab stand.

Getting to Vienna

Vienna is in the Northeast of Austria, and as the capital, it is the most important traffic hub of the country. Getting to your campervan rental in Vienna is easy.

The autobahns A5, A3, and A2 connect Vienna with countries such as Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary, Italy, and Slovenia that all border on Austria. The A1 leads directly through Austria to Germany.

The airport Vienna-Schwechat is only 18 km away from the city center. It is the home base airport of Austrian Airlines, and Ryanair and Wizz Air frequent it as well.

The railway connections from Vienna are excellent in all directions, particularly into the bordering regions and capitals of the surrounding countries such as Czechia and Hungary. Most of the trains of the ÖBB (Austrian Federal Railway) offer Wi-Fi and a restaurant.

Parking in Vienna

You will find the best parking outside the inner city. We recommend the Park & Ride Erdberg on the Autobahn exit of St. Marx. From there you can travel to the center with the U3, and you pay only €3.60 per day for the parking space.

Parking in Vienna’s inner city is secure. From Monday to Friday the city offers short-term parking only. With a ticket, you may park for up to 2 hours. 30 minutes cost €1.10.

Parking in a garage is available in the car park at Karlsplatz. This garage lies in the center and costs €12 per day. You may park mostly for free in districts 13, 21, 22, and 23 and then travel into the center. All are great options to leave your RV rental in Vienna whilst you explore the inner city.

Annual events in Vienna

  • Lifeall (May): A “must-go” for all who like it “shrill”. We celebrate Europe’s largest charity event for the benefit of people struck by AIDS and HIV in Vienna’s city hall. Ticket price from €90.
  • Donauinselfest (June): A music festival with many German-speaking artists in a cool location. Admission is free of charge.
  • Sommerkino am Rathauplatz (between July & September): Diverse Open-Air films, as well as catering and world music. Admission free of charge.
  • Viennale (November): The festival lasts 14 days and celebrates the Austrian film industry. The Viennese film award is also handed out during this program. Ticket price: €9.

Camping in Vienna

Even as a major city, Vienna offers the best possibilities for camping close to the center:

  • Camping Vienna West: Neat camping ground at the edge of the Viennese forest only 30 minutes by car away from the city center. Also, open on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Price from about €10.
  • Seecamping Masai Mara: Camp on the edge of the Danube only 1 hour away from Vienna. Countless possibilities for recreational activities. Prices per night from €6.
  • Camping Neue Donau: The Danube Island is THE local recreation area of Vienna; you cannot camp any closer to the city. Prices from about €10.

Weather graph for average temperatures in Vienna
Average temperatures in Vienna per month

The four seasons are very distinguishable in the city of Vienna. January and February are the coldest months of the year, and you can count on some snowfall. Often quite vicious winds blast through the city that can create quite uncomfortable temperatures. The months of May to September are the ideal times for camper rental in Vienna.

Late spring and summer have average temperatures of up to 200C during the day. The city of Vienna offers many Open-Air events, which you may enjoy, especially during the warm months. July and August may bring about temperatures of up to 270C. You can find welcoming, refreshing and cool spots for bathing and swim along the river Danube. During the summer months, students are mostly absent from the city, on the one hand, public places and parks are always crowded because the Viennese enjoy their free time, and they love the outdoors.

In fall, everybody in the city is delighted for the golden October days, which are best savored, with a cup of coffee on the banks of the river Danube.

Of course, city tourists love Vienna and the city attracts many people, particularly in spring and autumn. Austrians also use holidays such as Easter, Christmas, or extended weekends for a short trip to the capital. During those days hotels and campsites are quite crowded and more expensive.
