Known as the crossroads of the west, Salt Lake City is in the center of some of the most majestic scenery in the continental United States. Here, you can dive into the largest natural lake west of the Mississippi and sleep under pristine night skies. You will have easy access to over 13 national parks, rugged mountain ranges, enchanting deserts, and, of course, the marvelous salt lake.
Renting a campervan from Salt Lake City means unlimited access to America's greatest natural sights. Utah alone has five spectacular national parks within its borders. Hike under delicate rock arches in Arches National Park, or get lost in the maze of subway canyons in Zion . Travel beyond Utah to walk across the mouth of a volcano in Yellowstone National Park or marvel at the layered canyon walls of the Grand Canyon .
Along your way to any of these amazing locations, be sure to make time to stop at any of the other national parks in proximity to Salt Lake City. Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, Great Basin, Grand Tetons, and Rocky Mountain National Park are just a few of our favorites.
Swim, kayak, hike, and camp at any of the many lakes around Salt Lake City. Among our favorites are Bear Lake– known as ‘the Caribbean of the Rockies” because of its turquoise waters–and Lost Creek Reservoir–a serene reservoir tucked into the mountains that promise spectacular views.
Some of our more well-known favorites are Lake Powell and the Great Salt Lake. These two massive bodies of water promise miles of shoreline to relax on, hike around, and camp at. They are certain to provide entertainment for adventurers of all ages and abilities.
Those looking for saltwater can be easily satisfied as well. Renting a campervan or RV from Salt Lake City gives you the freedom to travel as far as the shoreline permits. Just a few hours west of your starting location, you can access the hidden beaches and amazing tide pools of California's Golden Coast and visit the amazing attractions of the Big Sur area.
With over 300 campgrounds statewide, finding a place to settle down for the night will be no problem. We recommend checking out Granite Flat or Spruces Campground in the Wasatch National Forest, just outside Salt Lake City. Camping is also available in the Great Salt Lake State Park in the surroundings of Lake Powell.
Campervan and RV-accessible campsites are available in all surrounding national parks. During peak season, national and state park camping spots fill up quickly, so we recommend calling ahead to make reservations in places that allow it. For sites that operate on a first-come, first-served basis, we recommend arriving early and planning to stay there during weekdays to ensure a spot.
