Campervan and RV Rental in New Zealand

New Zealand is located in the southwest Pacific Ocean. A campervan or RV rental is, without a doubt, the best way to experience this beautiful island. Beaches, mountains, and otherworldly landscapes are just some of the treats you can discover when renting an RV in New Zealand.

New Zealand National Parks

There are 13 national parks in New Zealand. They are predominantly located on the South Island, meaning you can easily access them with a campervan or RV rental.

Starting in the southwest of the South Island is Fiordland National Park. Majestic fjords, mountains, glacial lakes, and waterfalls make this park famous.

Slightly further north, near the center of the South Island, lie the alpine delights of the Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park. It comes from the Aoraki/Mount Cook mountain, New Zealand's highest peak. The park is known for its fauna, including alpine parrots, wild goats, and deer.

It's well worth taking your campervan or RV on the Cook Strait Ferry to the North Island. You can find Tongariro National Park, a spectacular UNESCO World Heritage Site. Active volcanoes, Maori religious sites, and the fantastic one-day hike known as the Tongariro Alpine Crossing are just a taste of what is on offer.

New Zealand Coastline, Lakes, and Rivers

New Zealand has vast mountain ranges in its center but has a fantastic coastline on both the North and South Islands. There are 15,000 kilometers of coastline to experience by campervan, with a vast variety. On the west side of the islands, the sand is dark due to the presence of iron. The coast offers a mix of rugged, dramatic landscapes alongside paradise beaches.

If you rent a campervan or RV in New Zealand, you can discover many of the country's incredible lakes. Some of the most popular lakes in the South Island are Lake Wanaka, Lake Wakatipu, and Lake Pukaki.

Lake Wanaka is known for its incredible views, walks, and famous Wanaka Tree. Lake Wakatipu has some incredible scenery that you can access by boat, campervan, or foot, while Lake Pukaki is scenic, mountainous, and has unforgettable blue waters.

Finally, there are lots of rivers that run through New Zealand that you can discover when you rent a campervan or RV. Waikato River, on the North Island, is a mighty river with waterfalls and cascades. Its quick pace makes it ideal for kayaking and canoeing. There is also bungy jumping available and some incredible Maori art to experience.

The Oreti River is the South Islands' longest. Swimming, fishing, and birdwatching are a few popular activities along the banks of this famous river.

Campgrounds in New Zealand

Campervan and RV rentals in New Zealand wouldn't be the same without some great campsites to unwind in after a day's travel. Thankfully, there are lots of great spots that welcome campervans and provide some welcome respite.

In the North Islands, some of the best campgrounds with pitches for rental campervans and RVs are Kiwi Camp National Park, Tauranga Tourist Park, and Houhora Heads Motor Camp.

On the South Island, a few great options to try are Murchison Motorhome Park, Central Park Camping Greymouth, and the serene Deer Valley Campsite. All the grounds listed above provide good facilities, electric pitches, toilets, showers, and more.

The best campervan-friendly campgrounds in New Zealand can get very popular, especially during the summer months. It's vital to call or book ahead to reserve a space to avoid being left disappointed.
