Less per night than a short trip, and usually less per month than the alternatives. Here's what actually determines your rate.
Four things move the price:
What's in the price, and what isn't. Your rate includes the vehicle, unlimited miles, basic protection and roadside assistance. Fuel, campsite or parking fees, and any optional extras are yours. Budget for those separately, over a month, campsite fees can rival the hire itself depending on how you travel.
To see your actual monthly rate, enter your dates and pick-up location above. The price you see is the price you pay, with everything itemised before checkout.
The honest answer is: it depends what you're comparing it to.
Versus a short hire — yes, clearly. The nightly rate on a monthly booking is well below a week-long trip. If you're travelling for three weeks or more, booking it as one long hire rather than several short ones is simply cheaper.
Versus hotels or short-term lets — often, especially for two or more people. You're paying for transport and accommodation in one line rather than two, and you're not paying a premium every time you change city. The comparison gets worse if you stay in expensive campsites every night and better if you mix in free or cheap overnight spots.
Versus buying a campervan — cheaper for anything under roughly a year, and far lower risk. No deposit, no loan, no depreciation, no maintenance bills, no insurance to arrange, and nothing to sell at the end. If you're not certain you want to own one, hiring long-term is how you find out without the capital.
Versus keeping your own vehicle parked — worth a thought. Many long-term hirers travel with the campervan as their only vehicle for the period, which changes the maths again.
The stereotype is a retiree on a year-long tour. In practice it's far broader.
1. Book the whole period at once. Enter your full date range rather than booking short and extending. The long-term rate applies to the booking as a whole, so one long reservation prices better than several short ones.
2. Pick your vehicle for how you'll live, not how you'll travel. Over a month, the things that matter change. Standing height, a usable kitchen, a bathroom, storage, and how easy the bed is to make every day matter far more than they do on a long weekend. Bigger isn't automatically better — a larger vehicle is harder to park in cities and costs more to fuel.
3. Drop off where you finish. Long-term hires don't have to be round trips. If you're ending up somewhere else entirely, a one-way hire works over any duration, with the one-way fee shown in your quote.
Yes. Indie Campers hires long-term across our whole network, and monthly bookings price at a lower nightly rate than short trips. Enter your full date range in the booking form and the long-term rate applies automatically.
It depends on four things: how long you book, which vehicle you choose, the season, and your pick-up location. Monthly bookings carry a substantially lower nightly rate than short hires. Enter your dates above to see your exact rate — everything is itemised before checkout, with unlimited miles and basic protection included.
Four things help. Book the full period as one reservation rather than several short ones, since the long-term rate applies to the booking as a whole. Choose the smallest vehicle that genuinely works for you. Travel in shoulder season rather than peak summer. And check a few different pick-up locations, since rates vary with local availability.
For anything under roughly a year, yes — and with far less risk. There's no deposit, no loan, no depreciation, no maintenance bills, no insurance to arrange and nothing to sell afterwards. It's also the sensible way to find out whether you enjoy the lifestyle before committing the capital.
Sometimes, and it depends heavily on how you travel. You're combining transport and accommodation into one cost, which usually wins against hiring a home and running a car. But campsite fees over a full month can be significant, so budget for them rather than comparing the hire rate to rent alone.
Yes, included as standard and subject to fair use. On a hire lasting weeks or months, that's the single most valuable inclusion.
We do. Routine servicing is arranged for the duration of your hire, so you're not sourcing a garage or paying maintenance costs yourself.
Usually, subject to availability. Contact us before your end date rather than after, and we'll confirm what's possible and what it costs.
Yes. One-way hires work over any duration — pick up in one city and finish somewhere else entirely, with the one-way fee shown in your quote before you book.
A long-term booking is paid at the time of booking, the same as any short hire. There are no monthly instalments — but equally there's no lease to sign, no credit check, no guarantor and no notice period. You're booking a hire, not entering into an agreement you have to get out of later.
No. A hired vehicle can't be registered as a residential address. Long-term hirers usually keep a permanent address for mail, banking and licensing.
Live in it, work from it, or take the long way round.
