Campervan Road Trips from Sydney

Sydney sits between some of the best drives in the country. There are national parks on the city’s edge, the Blue Mountains under two hours west, and the coast running north to Queensland and south to Victoria. About half our Sydney hirers do a loop and bring the van back here. The rest head one-way north to Brisbane and Cairns or south to Melbourne.

What to do in Sydney?

Royal National Park. Established in 1879, it’s the second-oldest national park in the world and about 45 minutes south of the CBD. Walk sections of the Coast Track, swim at Wattamolla and Garie Beach, and watch for whales offshore from May to November.

Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. On Sydney’s northern edge, with views over Pittwater and the Hawkesbury River from West Head Lookout, and Aboriginal rock engravings along its walking tracks.

Blue Mountains National Park. A World Heritage Area about two hours west. See the Three Sisters, Wentworth Falls and the Grand Canyon Track, plus dozens of lookouts and waterfalls.

Bouddi National Park. On the Central Coast, an hour north. Walk down to Maitland Bay, where the remains of the SS Maitland shipwreck sit on the rocks, and look for whales from the headlands in season.

Booderee National Park. At Jervis Bay, about three hours south. It’s jointly managed with the Wreck Bay Aboriginal Community, with sheltered beaches, snorkelling and the Green Patch campground.

How much does campervan hire in Sydney cost?

How much you’ll pay depends on the van, the season and how long you hire for. As a guide, here are our nightly rental prices from Sydney:

2-berth campervan: from $95 a night May to October, $110 in autumn and early summer, $145 in the summer holidays

Autumn and early summer means February to April and November; the summer holidays are December and January. Prices are for the vehicle only. On the road, budget for fuel, Sydney tolls, powered sites ($40 to $50 a night, more on the coast in peak season) and any national park fees.

When to hire a campervan in Sydney

Summer (December to February): the busiest time, with the beach season and the school holidays from Christmas to late January. Book a few months ahead.
Autumn (March to May): warm sea, fewer crowds and the best weather for Blue Mountains walks. Easter and the April school holidays fill up fast.
Winter (June to August): whale season along the coast, log fires in the mountains, and the Snowy Mountains ski fields about six hours south. It’s also the best time to start a one-way trip north to Queensland.
Spring (September to November): wildflowers, mild days and the NSW school holidays in late September and early October.

In general, a special licence is not required to hire our campervans in Sydney. However, a valid driving licence is required to operate our vehicles. For some non-EU citizens, a IDP is required, in addition to their home country's driver's licence. Are pets allowed in your campervans?

Yes, our campervans are pet-friendly. Just make sure to purchase the extra cleaning service during your booking. This service includes professional anti-allergic cleaning after your trip. Please note that only one pet is allowed per motorhome, and it must weigh no more than 30kg. Keep in mind, we are not responsible for any legal fees related to travelling with your pet. How many people can sleep in a campervan/motorhome?

The number of people who can sleep in our campervans will depend on the size of the vehicle and the model. In general, our class C motorhome models can sleep up to 4-8 people, whereas our class B motorhomes can sleep up to 2-4. For cars with a rooftop tent, around 2 people can sleep in this vehicles.
