Antelope Canyon is a pair of glowing sandstone slot canyons on Navajo land near Page, Arizona, famous for the light beams that drop into Upper Antelope in the middle of the day. It sits beside Lake Powell, where Wahweap and Page caravan parks offer full hookups. Indie Campers' Las Vegas and Phoenix depots are each about a 4.5-hour drive.

Getting the logistics right for a desert trip matters. A lot. We’ve seen people hire 12.2 m rigs that won’t fit in scenic pull-outs or run out of water on a 100-degree day. We set you up to avoid that.

Pick up your campervan from our Las Vegas depot or our Phoenix depot. Both are a scenic 4.5-hour drive away, roughly 451 km through the high desert of the Colorado Plateau. Forget per-mile charges. Our entire fleet comes with unlimited kilometres, so you can add that side trip to Monument Valley without worry. Our team gives you a full rundown of the vehicle, from the air conditioning to the water tanks, and with 24/7 roadside assistance, we’re always on call.

For this part of the world, vehicle size is key. We recommend our Standard or Family size campervans. At under 7.62 m, they are nimble enough to handle any paved road in the region and fit into standard campsites at places like Wahweap Campground. You get the comfort without the stress of maneuvering a bus-sized vehicle. Our depot teams will also remind you of the desert essentials: pack more water than you think you need, bring reflectix panels for the windows to block the sun, and always check your tyre pressure before heading out for the day as temperatures fluctuate.

Antelope Canyon is best woven into a larger story. Here are a few proven itineraries that we see succeed time and again, all starting from an Indie Campers depot.

The Grand Circle Mini-Loop (7-10 Days)

This is the classic. Three states. A handful of national parks. Pick up in Las Vegas. Day 1: Drive to Zion National Park (2.5 hours), camp at Watchman or South Campground. Day 2-3: Explore Zion (use the park shuttle; campervans have restricted access on the scenic drive). Day 4: Drive US-89 to Page, AZ (2 hours). Camp at Wahweap. Day 5: Antelope Canyon tour in the morning, Horseshoe Bend at sunset. Day 6: Drive to the Grand Canyon's South Rim (2.5 hours). Camp at Mather Campground or Trailer Village. Day 7-8: Explore the South Rim. Day 9: Drive back to Las Vegas (4.5 hours). This route delivers a major landmark every single day.

The Arizona Explorer (5-7 Days)

For a trip focused on the diversity of Arizona, start in Phoenix. Day 1: Drive north on I-17 to the red rocks of Sedona (2 hours). Camp at Manzanita Campground in Oak Creek Canyon. Day 2: Explore Sedona's hiking trails. Day 3: Head north through Flagstaff to Page (2.5 hours). Day 4: Antelope Canyon and Lake Powell. Day 5: Drive to the Grand Canyon's South Rim (2.5 hours). Day 6: Take in the canyon views before heading south back to Phoenix (3.5 hours). This itinerary gives you desert, mountains, and one of the seven natural wonders of the world.

Lake Powell Basecamp (3-4 Days)

If you're short on time but want maximum impact, make Page your destination. From either Las Vegas or Phoenix, it's a straight shot. Settle into a campsite at Wahweap or Page-Lake Powell Campground for 3 nights. This gives you a full day for your pre-booked Antelope Canyon tour, another for hiring a kayak or powerboat on Lake Powell, and plenty of time for Horseshoe Bend and the Glen Canyon Dam. It’s a focused trip that feels anything but rushed.

You can't camp within Antelope Canyon itself. That's a hard rule. But the surrounding area is packed with excellent options for every style of campervan traveller, though the key is to book developed campgrounds well in advance, especially from March to October.

• Wahweap RV Park & Campground: This is the premier spot. Located inside the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area on the shores of Lake Powell, it offers 250+ sites, many with full hookups (water, sewer, electric). The views are unbeatable. You’re paying for location and amenities like Wi-Fi, laundry, and a camp store.
• Page-Lake Powell Campground: A solid option in the town of Page. It has over 200 full-hookup sites, a pool, and is walking distance to restaurants and grocery stores. It lacks the direct lake views of Wahweap but offers convenience and slightly lower prices.
• Antelope Point RV Park: Situated at the Antelope Point Marina, this is another option with modern facilities and direct lake access. It’s a bit smaller than Wahweap but offers a similar on-the-water experience.
• Lee's Ferry Campground: For a more rustic experience, head an hour south to Lee's Ferry. The 54 sites here are first-come, first-served and have no hookups (dry camping). It's a quieter spot on the Colorado River, popular with anglers and hikers.
• Dispersed Camping (Boondocking): Free camping is available on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land surrounding Page. A popular area is along US-89. This is for self-sufficient RVers only. No toilets. No water. No tables. You must practice Leave No Trace principles, pack everything out, and adhere to the 14-day stay limit. Check apps like iOverlander for current conditions and specific GPS coordinates.
