Hanover can easily compete with other major cities in Germany for campervan rental. You can book city sightseeing tours with a double-decker bus with an experienced tour guide in Hanover. Festivals, art exhibitions, museum visits, and events are being offered throughout the city are great to see when you rent a camper in Hanover. Highlights in Hanover are, for example, the so-called “Herrenhäuser Gärten” (manor house gardens). They comprise altogether of four different gardens: the center attraction is the “Große Garten” (big garden), which ranks among the most famous gardens in a baroque style in all of Europe. The lavishly landscaped and meticulously laid gardens are certainly worth a visit. The Altwarmbüchener Moor (moorland landscapes) that spreads over 15 km2 is also worth a trip – you can either walk or bike there. Hanover's locals and visitors like to finish their daily doings and adventures with a glass of “Lüttje Lage” – a cocktail that is consumed out of two glasses and is extremely popular in that region.

Getting to Hanover

Getting there with your RV rental Hanover, the A2 is perfect if you're coming from the direction of Berlin and from Dortmund/Cologne as it leads directly to Hanover. Coming from Kassel/Frankfurt or Hamburg/Bremen you can take the A7. The federal highways B3 and B6 go straight through Hanover. The city’s main railway station has good connections locally and for long-distance trips. The ICE (Inner City Express) takes you to Hanover in 4.5 hours from Munich; from Hamburg, it takes you only one hour. The airport in Hanover is in the city district of Langenhagen; it connects the city with international and domestic destinations with 55 direct flights by airlines such as Condor, Eurowings, Lufthansa, Ryanair, and SAS.

Parking in Hanover

Parking with a campervan rental in Hanover is possible in the center, in Maschsee car park. The lot is located directly on the lake and free of charge. Other parking for RVs include Am Großen Garten 3. This lot is also in a central location, however, there is a fee of €20 per day. If you travel to Hanover during trade showtimes, parking is available for campers at the exhibition grounds opposite Hall 13 for a fee of €9 and €12 per day. You may also find parking for your RV at the lake Altwarmbüchen – in a pleasant location and free of charge. If you are lucky and find a sufficiently large enough space, you may also park directly on the roadside in Hannover, which does not cost anything.

Annual Events in Hanover

  • Deistertag (see above) (May): For all nature lovers: hiking, bicycling, and live music. Depending on the program, prices vary between €4 and €8, many attractions and activities are also free of charge.
  • SNNGT-Festival (one weekend in July): Art, culture, and music. The variety program offers e.g. poetry slams, readings, exhibitions, theater, and various kinds of music. Ticket prices from €55 with advanced booking.
  • Fotomarathon, Hanover (September): Each year features a different topic and 12 tricky tasks to do. Participants have 12 hours to discover a suitable motif and take a photo of it. Starting fee is €29.

Camping in Hanover

  • Campingplatz Birkensee: Directly at the lake Birken with lido, restaurant, and opportunities for sports such as soccer and volleyball, playground for children; parking space between €7 and €9, directly at the lake €9 and €11.
  • Camping Springhorstsee: In Burgwedel near Hanover, with a sandy beach and indoor pool. RV parking space, €9 per day.
  • Nordufer Camping: 4-star camping at the Steinhuder Meer, park-like design with many trees. Camper parking space, €8 per day.
