Moin Hamburg – Good morning, Hamburg! Hamburg is Germany’s second-largest city with 1.8 million citizens. The Hanseatic city in the North of Germany has a lot to offer for camper rental Hamburg. Hamburg is especially known for its large industrial harbor, the notorious Reeperbahn, where the party never stops (at least in non-pandemic times), and for one of its most expensive construction projects of the century – the Elbe Philharmonic Hall. The personality of Hamburg’s locals is also unique – they are known to be rather reserved or introverted. That should not deter you because once you establish the first contact, you will appreciate and love the dry Northern humor fast!
The traffic connections in and around Hamburg are excellent, and you can rely on public transport to take you securely and on time from A to B. Hamburg’s main train station is right in the middle of the city center, and sightseeing sites such as the Elphi (Philharmonic Hall) are within walking distance. Hamburg’s airport is not too far from the center of the city, and the S1 drives every 10 minutes to the main station at rush hour. Besides that, the city can be reached easily coming from all directions. From the East via the A24 (link to Berlin), the A20 and A23 in the North, the A7 (North-South link), or the A1 from the Southwest.
It will be difficult to find parking in the inner city, and all the green areas around the river Alster have strict No-Parking zones. There are major parking garages in the Center (€2.50 to €4 per hour), however, Hamburg is one of Germany’s cities with the most expensive parking fees. Outside the city, however, you will find many Park & Ride car parks – you may be able to park your vehicle even free of charge and take public transportation into the center. Park&Ride am Lattenkamp, Park&Ride Denhaide, Park&Ride Friedrichsberg or Park&Ride Veddel are where you can leave your RV rental Hamburg. Note: If you have no coins at hand, you may pay with your mobile phone under www.mobil-parken.de .
The best time to discover Hamburg is during the warmer summer months from May to September. Maritime influences dominate the climate in the Hanseatic city and summers, as well as winters, are mild. Temperatures rarely climb above 250C in summer; many citizens of Hamburg will enjoy those warm and sunny days, for example with a stroll along the banks of the river Alster or along the city-own Elbe beach with a view of the Hamburg harbor.
The coldest month is January, with an average temperature minimum of -20C. Through its proximity to the ocean, light wind and drizzle are always blowing, and a (slightly) cloudy sky is no rarity – therefore do not forget to have your windproof rain jacket always at hand. In autumn, you might occasionally experience some storms. So, when you visit Hamburg, be ready to face some diverse weather conditions. But that should not be a problem if you are well-prepared.
There is always something going on in one of Germany’s largest cities, whether when visiting the shopping streets of the inner city around the Mönckebergstraße, strolling on the notorious Reeperbahn or the Schanze, the hip and trendy neighborhood. The sunny months drive people into the streets of the city, and many locals take the time to tour the surrounding nature and beaches. If you want to RV rental Hamburg and find some good deals, then we recommend traveling in early summer (May) or late summer (September).
