Campervan Rental Austria

It seems like the clocks run slower in the small country called Austria. There is no need for stress during your motorhome rental in Austria because everything is so close to each other. You can cross the country from east to west in approximately 8 hours. The capital Vienna has just about 1 million inhabitants. Otherwise, Austria is pure nature.

The Austrians are not seen as the most cordial people, but if you engage with the typical “Schmäh” (eng. humor) you will be welcomed with open arms.

Fun Facts

  • The energy drink Red Bull was created in 1984 by the Austrian Dietrich Mateschitz. After some changes in the recipe and thanks to the creative marketing concept, Red Bull became world-famous.
  • The small town of Hallstatt is extremely popular among Chinese tourists. This is why they created an exact replica of the town in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong.
  • The biggest gemstone, a 2.800-carat emerald, can be found in Austria. It is on display in the treasury of the Hofburg in Vienna.

Camping in Austria

There are around 600 Camping spots in Austria, you can find everything from simple tent spots to go glamping. At nearly every campsite you can find sanitary facilities, a restaurant or even a small supermarket. Most of the campsites are only open from April until September.

Wild camping in the forest or in natural reserves is only allowed with the permission of the landowner. Wild camping in different parts is dependent on the law in every state.

Camping tourism is especially popular around the lake regions in Salzburg, Kärnten, and the Steiermark. A lot of locations have direct access to the lake.

Those that love the mountains will enjoy taking a RV rental in Austria to the highest Camping in the Paznauntal in Tirol. Here you camp at a height of 1,820 meters.

Driving in Austria

Austria has generally an excellent road network. In the mountainous regions, you need to be aware of mountain passes, serpentines, and steep slopes.  In Austria, you need to pay a toll on the highway. You can buy a road tax disc that is valid for 10 days, 2 months, or a whole year, and you can register it digitally. On certain mountain roads, you may have to pay additional fees. You drive on the right side.
