Campervan hire Zürich
A lakeside city ticking with clockwork efficiency and loaded with smashing sceneries, decadent parties, and the world’s best chocolate, Zürich is ‘a good city gone wild’ in the best way possible.
Both one of the world’s most livable cities and a global financial powerhouse, Zürich is sweet and rich like chocolate. Residents here are having their cake and eating it too, and couldn’t agree less with the old proverb that ‘money doesn’t buy happiness’, because neither does poverty... Sure, there’s more to happiness than economic wealth — and Zürich has more of everything. This portal to the snow-capped Alps doesn’t hold back when it comes to astonishing natural beauty, but it also scores big on the ‘awesome architecture’ scale. Proper, elegant, and high-class, Zürich has a post-industrial flair that makes other cities blush. With a dynamic cultural scene, the city is a delight to your finest senses. And Zürich also knows how to get down and party, too, with more than 80 clubs open on weekends, over 500 bars, more than 1,500 restaurants, and around 60 movie showrooms. Hire a campervan in Zürich and discover the restlessness that lays underneath a blissful surface.

Zürich has always had an affinity for profitable trades and financial prosperity. Its humble beginnings date back to 15 BC, when the Romans established Turicum to oversee trade through the Alps. However, centuries passed until Zürich was properly mentioned as a town in the late 800s. No problem for Zürich, though, because the city is known for its patience, perseverance, and the kind of ambition that turns a city into a money magnet. Zürich might have been part of the Holy Roman Empire, but with the dawn of the Swiss Protestant Reformation in the 16th century, the city switched to its true religion, trade. Zürich still had some stormy waters to navigate, as Napoleon took charge and then the French. Yet, the city thrived and prospered and, thanks to Switzerland’s neutrality, remained unharmed during WWII.
Today, Zürich is flourishing more than ever, offering not only financial security but also inspiring a sense of wonder, adventure, and a big, big craving for the sweet. With Lake Zürich at its feet and Limmat River passing through, the city has refreshing views that beautifully complement its architecture. Hire a campervan in Zürich and visit its Altstadt, discover the former Roman fortress in Lindenhof, and taste the city’s rogue side in the West, best known as the former industrial area. If you’re a football supporter, you might want to also stop at the FIFA headquarters and visit its museum for an interactive experience. Also, the Street Parade — the world’s most attended techno parade — deserves a try if you have the techno vibes in your bones. Don’t leave Zürich without also visiting its beautiful mountains and, of course, without making generous provisions of its finest chocolate.
What to discover
In and around the city
With crystal-clear waters, there are various venues open on Zürich’s riverbanks that are perfect for taking a refreshing dip or making a big splash. Because what could be better than diving in the crisp waters with an imposing Alpine backdrop? Infinity pools have nothing on Zürich’s bathing spots. When evening falls in summer, stylish bars complete the scene and hype up the nightlife. Head to Strandbad Tiefenbrunnen, or Strandbad Mythenquai if you’re with your family. Near the city centre, women can choose Frauenbad am Stadthausquai and men can go for the one at Schanzengraben.
Zürich is to travelling what dessert is to any great meal. And for good reason — the city knows its chocolate. Here, every chocolatier has a story to tell, even if all stories end the same: with truffles, tonka beans, candies, and even kilo-sized bars. Try out the delicious crafts of Läderach on Bahnhofstrasse, Teuscher beneath Lindenhof square, Max Chocolatier near St. Peter’s Church, or simply stroll around Zürich’s streets to discover countless chocolate shops serving bite-sized pieces of heaven.
Uetliberg, Zürich’s local mountain, can be directly reached by public transport. With captivating panoramic views that leave you lost for words, the mountain also offers a myriad of hiking opportunities and encourages visitors to take their bikes out for a spin. Although all seasons are great for hitting the peak of Uetliberg, summer has the summit covered in fog, making it less suitable for gazing at panoramic wonders. If you want to experience — and see — Zürich from above, autumn is your best chance at glimpsing some soul-gripping views.
Luzern is Swiss grace and stunning sceneries bundled in a nest guarded by legendary mountains. Here, the plazas are sunny and the houses are vibrant, inviting travellers to lose themselves among the many winding streets that lead to breathtaking views. Once you admire the beauty of Luzern’s wonderfully preserved Altstadt, make your way to the city’s waterfront, where charming bridges lead to even more charming spots. If you think you’re ready to hire a campervan in Luzern, rewind just a bit and start from Zürich. Rent a motorhome there, make a plentiful reserve of chocolate, and come to taste what Luzern also has to offer.
Visiting Chur feels like entering an art gallery. With its countless artsy restaurants and charming bars, the oldest city in Switzerland might as well be a work of art. Preserved in pristine condition, Chur’s Altstadt has an undeniable charm and tone, bringing soothing serenity to the exhausted traveller thanks to its car-free policy. A gateway to the Alps, Chur deserves just as much attention as the snow-capped giants. If you want to pay tribute to Chur’s beauty, hire a campervan in Chur or, better yet, rent one in Zürich and take in the finest of what Switzerland has to offer — because if there’s any country that deserves a road trip, it’s Switzerland.
If you were the classical tourist, maybe you wouldn’t even consider Winterthur. However, since you’re a wanderer in search of travel gems, you’ll definitely want to pay this charismatic Swiss city a visit. If, on top of that, you’re also the kind that goes bananas over art, Winterthur becomes an unmissable destination. Here you’ll find enthralling art collections and one of Europe’s most titillating photography museum that will soon get you caught in a conundrum between taking photos and admiring photos. One thing is clear: if you’re thinking to hire a campervan in Winterthur, you’re on the right track. However, we suggest you rent a motorhome in Zürich and combine the two cities in a road trip filled with outdoor masterpieces and indoor artistic treasures.
