Surrounding many of Britain’s finest landscapes, the North West of England is the area that runs along the Irish Sea coast from the Welsh to the Scottish border. Away from the allure of its big cities, spots to look out for include Morecambe Bay, which combines dramatic coastal landscapes with a whole host of adventure sports and places to take your RV rental North West of England. The Lake District National Park is a prime walking country and contains Scafell Pike, the highest point in England, as well as lakes that inspired romantic poets including Wordsworth and Keats. Gastronomy

Lancashire hotpot can still be found on restaurant menus, and consists of a slow-cooked casserole of beef and vegetable chunks topped with a layer of sliced potatoes. Another is the Cumberland sausage. Taking their name from the old name for Cumbria, they are made from pork and have a distinctive coiled shape. They are normally served with mashed potatoes. If you’re feeling in need of something sweet, look out for Eccles Cakes in the region’s bakeries, which sees a filling of raisins encased in melt-in-the-mouth pastry. The drink of choice when going out remains beer, with several local ales and stouts widely available.

Annual Events in North West England

  • Keswick Film Festival, Theater by the Lake, February. Set in the heart of the Lake District, this film festival welcomes documentaries from all over the world, with previous actors and directors going on to win Oscars in later years. See them here first from €8 per screening.
  • Manchester Pride, Canal Street, August. Cutting through central Manchester, this is the UK’s longest-running LGBT+ parade and attracts around 200,000 people each year for a day out like no other.
  • Blackpool Illuminations, Blackpool Promenade, September – December. Lighting up the promenade for ten kilometers are over a million bulbs placed to form a series of individual ‘tableau’ and a staggering overall experience. Free.

Camping in North West England

  • Stybeck Farm. Approximately 10 minutes to Lake District sites including Grasmere and Keswick, this is an adult-only, dog-friendly site with electric hardstand pitches from €27 per night.
